Wodonga is one of Victoria's fastest growing regional cities strategically located on the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Sydney. Situated on the Murray River surrounded by hills, rich agricultural valleys, wineries and historic towns, it's perfectly placed for lifestyle and investment.

Servicing a regional population of around 160,000, Wodonga has seen unprecedented growth during the past 25 years and its development is set to continue.

Modern innovative residential developments, a thriving commercial area and an expanding industrial base are three major ingredients for ensuring continued growth of this unique area of North Eastern Victoria.

Its position on the main Australian transport and communications corridor makes it an attractive business location. The City is home to a large business base including companies such as Masterfoods Petcare, Moore Australia, Tenix and Norvic Foods. Recent additions include a $60 million Visy Industries box manufacturing plant and National Foods Vita Soy, further strengthening Wodonga's reputation as a major manufacturing, transport and distribution centre.

With a focus on forward planning for continued growth, a wide range of projects are intended for the coming year projects that will lead to a strengthening of the central business area and the general employment zones.

This year a major precinct redevelopment will commence at the Showgrounds/Racecourse, as will work on removing the railway line from the central business area.

Gateway Island located between the border cities of Wodonga and Albury is currently under construction. This riverine environment will provide a recreational and tourist heart for the twin cities with opportunities that encompass lake and riverside activities, educational and recreational developments, cultural and food and wine pursuits. When fully developed Gateway Island is forecast to have the potential to attract in excess of 350,000 visitors each year.

The City is also establishing a major new intermodal hub, LOGIC Wodonga, adjacent to the Hume Freeway and the Melbourne to Sydney rail on 440 hectares of Industrial Zoned land.

Associated with this project is approximately $6 million worth of infrastructure works, which is likely to be tendered between July and December, 2004. Included in this work is around 1 km of road construction, installation of 11-12 km of water and sewer mains, general services and the construction of waterways.

Wodonga is on the cusp of a strong job growth, which will in turn generate strong demand for housing and services.

The next 5 years look very promising for the area with a council focus on transforming the City of Wodonga to a modern and vibrant provincial centre.
