Low Flow Ecological Response and Recovery

Low Flows and associated residual pools are critical for a range of aquatic ecosystems. A review of the hydrological and ecological issues surrounding low flow management identified significant gaps in our understanding and assessment of how species, assemblages and processes respond to and recover from low flows, including cease to flow conditions. This project aims to assist water planning by developing a contemporary, Australia wide understanding and quantification of thresholds of response to the onset of, and recovery from, single and successive low flow events by individual species, biotic assemblages and ecosystem processes. Identifying “thresholds of potential concern” is a specific objective, and the project aims to contribute to developing national approaches and standards for assessing / modelling such ecological thresholds.

Estimated value: From $200,000.00 to $220,000.00
